Book Talks

This year fifth grade students will be reading several novels and completing book talks rather than doing book report projects. Due dates and book talk requirements will be discussed in class. Students will be reminded when book talks are due, however, class time will not be given for students to work on book talks. Book talks should be prepared and practiced at home.

A book talk is a 3 minute talk about a book you want to motivate others to read. It is similar to a movie trailer but for books. The purpose of a book talk is to get other classmates interested in the book that you have read. Book talks provide enough information about the text to interest the audience, but book talks do not give away all details of the book or the ending.

Students will receive copies of the book talk requirements/, book talk report sheet, book talk check list, and book talk rubric in class. Extra copies can be obtained from the book talk folder located in the classroom.
